Time to Stop Being Anti-Social

If 2020 showed us anything, social media is not going anywhere. Social media is how the new generations connect, learn and work. Social media has its good and bad sides, but who doesn’t?

So it is time that we learn to make the most of this ever-changing world we live in and embrace it.

To have your business on social media is essential to your growth. It takes more than posting a picture here or there. Followers on social media want an authentic and more engaging experience with people and businesses they follow.

Seems overwhelming? We get it - but think of social media, not as something foreign we don’t understand but as another way of communication - much like the telephone but digital.

We have some simple tips that can help you stay engaged. They are so simple you may think - Why didn’t I think of that?

  • Be Consistent - this might be an unpopular opinion, but you don’t have to post every day. Post three days a week if that’s all you can post while running your business but be sure you commit to three times a week. The more you post, the more likely people will see your posts and engage.

Check out our Instagram post about content pillars - they are super helpful tools for you to know what to post about to make it easier on you!

  • Connect - When a follower comments on your posts, say something back - anything. Even if they give you a fire emoji - give a proper emoji back or say something like, “we know - right!?!?!” But don’t let that opportunity pass you by because your follower will be shocked and appreciate that you responded to their comments.

Another way to connect is to comment, as your page, on other like-minded groups and businesses. For example, say you are a florist, you want to engage with others who can help grow your business. So follow and comment on the pages of DJs, event venues, chambers of commerce, photographers in your area. This interaction gets their attention, so if they hear of a bride needing a florist, your name might come to mind or the brides, themselves, may even see your comment and reach out. Something so simple yet so rewarding.

  • Be Authentic - something else the pandemic shifted is how we connect on social media. After a year of nothing but interaction on social media, gone are the days that you could post an ad about your business and be successful. Show up - like actual you - a face for your business. For example, you could show yourself behind the scenes at an event or give a tour of your business on video. People want to know more about you and your business - so tell them.

Also, when you write captions, remember not every post has to be selling your product or service. Ask questions at the end to help engage or make a statement. These closings help build trust and show you are not there to sell them something.

Engagement Tip of the Day

In your Stories, create polls that ask your followers a question. It does not necessarily have to be about your business - you could ask them if they like coffee or tea. It is just another way to engage and interact with your followers. You can use the question and answer sticker in Stories then, you answer those questions in your Stories.
