So long, Instagram Likes!
Possibly the biggest news in digital marketing this month was when Instagram announced we'll soon be saying "so long" to likes. Now before you panic, the account admin will still be able to see likes on your own posts, but those visiting your page won't be able to.
So, what does this mean for your account?
Well, frankly, it means that engagement is everything! Is your content resonating with your audience enough that they're taking time to comment or save it? Are they posting it to their story or sending it via DM to their friends?
In recent years, likes have become a vanity metric (just like the following number) and a 'like' really isn't a key metric for how your content is performing with your audience. How easy is it to mindlessly scroll and double-tap every image you come across? Too easy! For someone to take the time and write a comment, they have invested in reading the post and respond to it - and that's a connection I'm much more excited about as a business owner.
Now is the time to make a change to your content strategy before this goes into effect in the US. Not sure where to start? Shoot me a quick email and I'll send back some tips to help you maximize your content's potential.
What do you think about the loss of seeing likes on Instagram? Are you for or against this change?
